Your skin is your body’s largest organ and looking after it matters. At Armstrong Creek Doctors, our GPs perform skin checks and a range of minor skin procedures and treatments for common skin conditions, right here at our clinic.
Skin Checks
A skin check is a thorough examination of your skin by a GP to identify any changes, spots, or lesions that may require further attention. Skin checks are an important part of preventative healthcare, particularly in Australia where sun exposure is a significant public health consideration.
Our GPs perform skin checks with careful attention to early detection of skin cancers, including melanoma. If anything concerning is identified during your check, your GP will discuss the findings with you and advise on the appropriate next steps.
Who Should Have a Skin Check?
A skin check is recommended if you:
- Have noticed a new or changing spot, mole, or lesion
- Have a personal or family history of skin cancer
- Have fair skin, light hair, or light eyes
- Spend or have spent significant time outdoors or in the sun
- Have not had a skin check in the past 12 months
If you are ever unsure about a spot on your skin, it is always worth getting it checked.
Minor Skin Procedures
For common skin conditions that require treatment, our GPs are equipped to perform a range of minor skin procedures right here in our clinic. For many common skin concerns, assessment and minor treatment may be possible at our clinic. Your GP will advise on the most appropriate course of action based on your individual situation.
Procedures that may be available include:
- Mole and skin lesion removal
- Skin tag removal
- Cyst removal
- Skin biopsies
- Cryotherapy (freezing of warts and benign skin lesions)
- Wound closure and suturing
- Abscess drainage
- Cauterisation of minor skin concerns
If a procedure is beyond the scope of what can be performed in our clinic, your GP will refer you to the appropriate specialist.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Before Your Procedure
Your appointment will begin with a consultation where your GP assesses your skin concern and discusses your options with you. There is no obligation to proceed with any procedure until you feel fully informed and comfortable.
During Your Procedure
Your GP will explain each step clearly and obtain your informed consent before proceeding. All procedures are performed in a clean, safe clinical environment. Local anaesthetic is used where appropriate to minimise discomfort during the procedure.
After Your Procedure
Before you leave, your GP will provide clear aftercare instructions to support your recovery. A follow-up appointment may be recommended depending on the nature of your procedure. You are welcome to contact our reception team at any time if you have questions after your visit.
Fees & Bulk Billing
Armstrong Creek Doctors is a fully bulk billing clinic for standard GP consultations. Please note that skin checks and skin procedures are not covered under standard Medicare bulk billing and will incur a private fee.
Our reception team will advise you of the applicable fees before your appointment so there are no surprises.
